In 2018, a report showed that over 30 percent of all students enrolled in universities and colleges were from immigrant families. Miriam Feldblum, the executive director of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, said the future workforce is being produced and trained through higher education. Now, students from immigrant families will increasingly become America’s workers of the future. While accessing higher education, these immigrant students have a better chance of achieving their dreams, and not only benefit their lives, but the lives of their children and country.
Close to half of students enrolled in California universities are immigrants or children of immigrants. An astounding majority of immigrant students are legal residents or US citizens. As these numbers continue to rise, the students will be more critical to the US universities’ financial health.
